Key Responsibilities
- Review project costs and operating expenses to determine eligibility for capitalization in accordance with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
- Evaluate project documentation, supporting evidence, and cost classifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Document capitalization assessments and decisions in line with internal policies and procedures. Maintain clear, audit-ready support of all capitalization assessments.
- Prepare and post asset related journal entries, including additions, transfers, retirements, impairments and adjustments.
- Reconcile asset accounts and ensure the integrity and accuracy of the asset register. Monitor project and asset balances, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Contribute to period close (month end quarter end, year end) activities related to capitalization and assets.
- Participate in periodic reviews of asset useful lives, impairment indicators, annual inventory counts and other activities related to proper asset accounting.
- Assist in the preparation of asset related reports and analysis for internal stakeholders.
- Support periodic reconciliations between the asset register and the general ledger.
- Ensure full compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and relevant accounting standards.
- Assist in providing documentation and explanations during internal and external audits related to assets and capitalized projects.
- Support the resolution of audit queries and implementation of audit recommendations.
- Review, assess and recommend improvements to capitalization & assets policy and procedures.
- Participate and/or lead finance projects for system improvements, reporting optimization and other ad-hoc initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
- At least 3 years’ experience in financial accounting, fixed asset accounting, or project accounting.
- Knowledge of capitalization principles and fixed asset accounting under IFRS. US GAAP considered a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP or Oracle) is an advantage.
- Excellent advanced Excel skills
- Fluent English is essential.
