Senior Manager, Merchant Risk Strategy

Build and optimise decision strategies that protect and scale a global payments platform 

 As Senior Manager, Merchant Risk Strategy at Paysafe, you will own how merchant risk decisions are designed, executed and optimised across one of the world’s largest payments ecosystems. 

 This is a hands-on strategy and decisioning role, focused on delivering measurable impact through decision optimisation, experimentation and commercial trade-offs. 

 This is not a policy, governance or operational risk role. 

You will lead a team of Risk Strategists responsible for solving complex, data-driven risk problems at scale — from onboarding and underwriting through to portfolio lifecycle management — ensuring strategies are embedded in live decisioning systems and delivering real outcomes.

How we work:

 

We follow a hybrid working model, spending an average of three days per week at our office location. This role can be based from our London or Dublin hub. The London office is located in Gresham Street next to St Paul’s cathedral with easy access and transport links via St Paul’s, Bank, Cannon Street, City Thameslink, Liverpool Street, Farringdon, Mansion House. The Dublin office is located at 15 Georges Quay, in the heart of Dublin.

 

The impact you will have:

 

Lead Merchant Risk Decisioning Strategy 

  • Own and optimise merchant risk decision strategies across onboarding, underwriting and lifecycle management 
  • Design segmentation strategies, automation thresholds, probation and graduation models 
  • Drive data-led decisions balancing risk, revenue and customer experience 

 

Analytical Leadership & Measurement 

  • Define success metrics tied to loss reduction, approvals and automation 
  • Run experiments, monitoring frameworks and post-implementation reviews 
  • Translate insight into live decision changes 

 

Own Execution in Decisioning Platforms 

  • Own implementation of strategies in rules, workflows and models 
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to embed strategies 
  • Take ownership of performance and iteration 

 

Lead & Develop a Team 

  • Coach and develop Risk Strategists 
  • Set high standards for analytical rigour and storytelling 
  • Ensure outputs are actionable and commercially grounded 

 

Cross-functional Influence 

  • Represent risk in trade-off discussions between risk, revenue and CX 
  • Work with Product, Engineering, Operations and Compliance

 

 

What Success looks like:

  • Reduce losses and chargebacks while improving approvals 
  • Increase onboarding automation (~80%) 
  • Deliver measurable improvements through experimentation 
  • Drive commercially sound decisions across the lifecycle 

 

 

What we’re looking for:

 

 

  • 8–10+ years in payments risk, fraud or analytics.
  • Strong analytical background with experience designing and measuring the impact of risk decision strategies.
  • Proven people leader with experience coaching high‑performing analytical or strategy teams.
  • Comfortable working with imperfect data, ambiguity and complex trade‑offs.
  • Exceptional ability to translate analysis into clear narratives for senior, non‑technical audiences.
  • Deep familiarity with payments ecosystems, merchant fraud risks and control design.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments (PCI, PSD2, GDPR, schemes, sponsor banks).
