We are seeking a Legal Counsel for the South America region based in Lima, Peru.

As a Corporate attorney in the South America Legal Department, you will report directly to the Senior Legal Counsel, based in Lima, Peru and will provide legal guidance to Paysafe primarily with respect to contract, commercial, corporate governance, and payment services law.

The successful candidate brings 4-6 post-qualified years of experience as a commercial lawyer or in-house corporate counsel. The candidate will be fully bilingual in Spanish and English.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Providing legal advice with a focus on contract, commercial, corporate and payment services law but also providing counseling to internal stakeholders on risks of various business strategies
  • Active management, drafting, negotiation, review and revision of contracts and terms & conditions in Spanish and English to support the growth of the Paysafe business
  • Assisting and coordinating various legal queries from other departments;
  • Providing corporate administrative support, including communicating information on group companies to other departments and updating information relating to group companies in corporate files and databases;
  • Coordinating the authentication and legalization of documents by consulates and embassies;
  • Drafting and review of communications with business partners, consumers and public authorities
  • Assisting internal departments and project teams in achieving corporate objectives effectively and in compliance with applicable laws, procedures and policies (e.g., launch of new countries, product initiatives, marketing and sponsorships, conducting internal education)
  • Collaborating on and leading projects with other departments and functions to ensure compliance due to changes in applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • Research and monitoring of laws in coordination with outside counsel in various jurisdictions typically covering such matters as anti-money laundering detection and prevention, currency and foreign exchange controls, banking regulations, licensing and other regulatory and legal matters
  • Dealing with litigation matters (consumer and commercial) and responding to external legal inquiries
  • Active collaboration within the Paysafe legal team
     

Qualifications:

  • Degree in legal science or commercial law required. Preference for candidates with overseas post graduate studies (eg, LLM)
  • 4-6+ years of post-qualified professional experience in an internationally active law firm or corporate legal department, with demonstrated legal expertise with successful results in one or more complex areas of the law (preferably engaged in the provision and/or regulation of financial services or e-commerce), commercial law/contractual law and general business law
  • Experience in dealing directly with business clients at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization, but in particular in counselling senior business clients
  • Superb drafting and communication skills in both Spanish and English. Candidate must be able to negotiate and draft in Spanish and English without assistance
  • Strong familiarity with financial industry and services regulation and/or e-commerce in Peru and Latin America
  • Proficient MS Office
