Overview:

The Underwriter I, reporting to the Underwriting Manager, is responsible for using their credit/risk knowledge and discretion to process daily merchant applications, provide agent support, and help clear department queues.

 

Responsibilities:

• Understand the credit/risk scales and all bank policies in depth

• Compile complete application packages with emphasis on attention to detail

• Validate information provided on the merchant application and supporting documentation

• Utilize skills in problem identification, analysis, research and resolution using available resources to status merchant applications

• Navigate multiple system interfaces to status applications

• Update notes on all applications in pending and provisional status

• Obtain credit ratings from credit bureaus, banks, and trades on application

• Answer inquiries or refer inquiries to the appropriate department

• Review applications with Risk Management as needed

• Work in fast paced environment while staying precise in daily activities to meet SLA’s

• Perform other duties as requested to maintain the effective operation of the department

 

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1+ years of proven High-Risk, Credit Underwriting experience required

• Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent rapport building skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships across functional and reporting levels

• Excellent organizational skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, as well as within tight deadlines

• Take initiative to suggest and implement new ideas for processing work which result in greater efficiencies

• Flexibility to work overtime or on weekends as needed

• Must possess the attitude of a team player in offering assistance to others and maintain a positive attitude

• Knowledgeable of how to read and interpret credit reports, financials statements and Experian/D&B reports

• Understanding risks associated with various business verticals

 

Tools

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
