To help us fuel accelerated growth, we are looking for an experienced Senior Underwriter.
This role is based in Jacksonville, FL and offers a hybrid working model of working remotely while also being able to work an average of three days per week from our office in Jacksonville.
Position Overview: The Senior Underwriting position is responsible for the underwriting of new business merchant account applications by accurately reviewing the application details and due diligence documentation. This position holder will render decisions within their authority limits for credit approval. You will need to have a thorough understanding of policies and procedures within the Underwriting Department. Senior Underwriter holders will be responsible for showing leadership and guidance to Underwriter I and Underwriter II staff.
Your responsibilities would include:
- Accountable for thoroughly researching and data entering applications into company systems for newly acquired accounts added to the Paysafe portfolio
- Apply appropriate underwriting criteria to applications following published credit policy to ensure financial exposure is properly mitigated
- Read and analyze credit reports, merchant processing statements, bank statements, and financial statements to determine a merchant’s ability to support the exposure associated with their business type and requested parameters
- Gather due diligence data from various locations, including by not limited to, third-party vendor websites, the internet, the client obtained data, etc to make approval/denial decisions within guidelines
- Act as an escalation point for less experienced Underwriters; able to advise and coach others on complex accounts or documentation and provide secondary analysis
- Manage all pending and declined accounts daily using the department communication methods
- Utilize due diligence data and Underwriting Guidelines to make recommendations to Underwriting Management for exception approval; completing a thorough Review and Exception form to provide management with relevant information and recommendation
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding risk exposure within approval thresholds aligned and governed by Sponsor Banks, Delegated Authority levels, and internal Credit Underwriting Policies and Procedures
- Communicate timely with sales agents/offices to resolve pending items required for the approval of the application
- Uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses or alternate solutions to process/approve merchant applications
- Works with a high level of autonomy and performs effective independent judgment decisions
- Maintain an understanding of current, new and emerging fraud and risk trends within the industry
- Provide guidance, training, and support to others
- Initiate and/or take part in department improvements as directed by leadership
- Performs reviews on accounts and websites that may contain sensitive content

Qualifications:
- Bachelors' Degree from an accredited college with emphasis in business and/or finance or equivalent work experience
- Five (5) or more years Acquiring / Bankcard underwriting required or a combination of relevant experience in general Underwriting plus Acquiring / Bankcard underwriting
- Strong experience and understanding of credit reports, MATCH, Experian, OFAC, and KYC
- Ability to analyze complex financial statements, tax returns and bank statements
- Thorough and able to handle responsibility, stress, and authority appropriately
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
